Understanding Video Bit Rates

Bit rate refers to the amount of data processed per second in a video file. A higher bit rate generally results in better quality but increases file size and bandwidth consumption.

  • 1M (1 Mbps): Suitable for low-resolution video with minimal motion.
  • 2M (2 Mbps): Works well for standard-definition (SD) video with average motion.
  • 3M (3 Mbps): Ideal for high-definition (HD) video with moderate detail.
  • 4M (4 Mbps): Recommended for full HD (1080p) content with high detail.
  • 5M (5 Mbps): Best for high-quality 1080p video or content with fast motion.

Choosing the Right Bit Rate

When selecting a bit rate, consider:

  • Resolution: Higher resolution requires a higher bit rate.
  • Motion Complexity: Fast-moving scenes need more data to prevent artifacts.
  • Bandwidth Considerations: Higher bit rates increase data usage.
