Supported Fonts

Imgix renders text onto images and video with the txt-font parameter, and onto video captions with video-caption-font. This page lists every typeface each API accepts.

Search either list below. Each result previews the typeface as the API actually draws it. Typefaces for non-Latin writing systems are previewed with a specimen in their own script.

The Two APIs Have Different Fonts

The Rendering API and the Video API maintain separate font sets. Every typeface listed for the Rendering API also works on video, but the Video API supports 396 more that the Rendering API does not — so a name taken from the Video list will not necessarily work on an image.

Rendering API

Used by txt-font for text drawn onto images.

Text renders in HelveticaNeue when txt-font is omitted. You can also pass a generic category — serif, sans-serif, monospace, cursive or fantasy — instead of a specific name.

Video API

Used by txt-font for text overlays and video-caption-font for burn-in captions. Both accept the same names.

Text overlays default to sans-serif; captions default to Helvetica.

The Video API does not accept the generic categories (serif, monospace and so on) that the Rendering API does — pass a specific name. An unrecognized name falls back to the default rather than erroring.

A small number of Video API typefaces cannot be previewed here, because the preview images are drawn by the Rendering API and those particular faces are not installed on it. They still work on video — the rows are labelled rather than omitted.

Machine-readable lists

Both lists are published as JSON for use in font pickers and other tooling:

https://docs.imgix.com/data/fonts-rendering.json
https://docs.imgix.com/data/fonts-video.json

Each file carries a schema version, the source it was derived from, a generatedAt date, and a fonts array of { name, script }.

The Video API list is a point-in-time snapshot. Its fonts are loaded from a manifest that can change when the video service is updated, so check generatedAt if you are relying on it being current.

Custom fonts

Neither API supports uploading your own fonts.
