Billing Overview
This guide provides an overview of how billing works in imgix.
Choosing a plan
All customers are automatically placed on the Free plan upon sign-up. The Free plan allows you to use imgix with a limited number of Origin Images and Bandwidth each month. If you need more resources, you can upgrade to a paid plan anytime.
The plan you should purchase is based on the number of Origin Images and Bandwidth used each month. Origin Images are the number of unique images requested from your origin server. Bandwidth is the total amount of data transferred from imgix to your users.
Note that imgix does not bill you for the number of transformations. You can make thousands of transformations of an Origin Image, but it will only be counted as single Origin Image in your billing cycle.

To upgrade to a plan:
- Login to your imgix dashboard
- Click your account at the top right -> Plan & Billing
- Click on Change Plan
Late payments
If you have an outstanding invoice, your rendering will be disabled until the invoice is paid. You can view your outstanding invoices in the dashboard.
Your rendering will be re-enabled within a few minutes upon resolving unpaid invoices.
Usage Limits
Each plan has a specified limit on the number of Origin Images and Bandwidth that can be used each month. If you exceed either of those limits, new renders will be disabled until the next billing cycle. Cached images will continue to be served.
If you have reached your limit, you can upgrade to the next plan in your dashboard to increase your usage limits.

Canceling Your Account
You can cancel your account in two ways:
- You can downgrade to a free account in your plans page. A free account can still use imgix but will not serve any images once the usage limit has been reached.
- You can delete your account by going to the account settings page and clicking the Delete Account button.
By deleting your account, you will also be deleting all your personal information. Deleted accounts are recoverable for a period of 30 days, after which they are permanently deleted.
Payment methods
Customers on a standard plan are required to pay using a credit card. imgix accepts Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. Prepaid debit cards are not accepted.
Premium customers have additional payment options such as wire transfer or ACH. When paying with non-credit card methods, we recommend adding the invoice number in your memo field to ensure proper payment reconciliation of your account.
How are multiple-image operations like watermarks and blends charged?
Images that are used as overlays, watermarks, etc. will count as origin images even if they are not addressed or served directly. For example, if you have 5 images of cars and 1 image of a logo, and you use the logo as a watermark on each of the car photos, you would be billed for 6 origin images. The logo image may never be delivered directly, but still counts as an origin image since it is fetched to render the logo watermark.
