SSL Documentation

By default, you will only be able to use your custom subdomain with http. Using https with a custom domain requires an SSL certificate through our CDN partner.

Each SSL costs $50/month for a single SSL. This is a recurring fee in addition to the cost of your current plan.

Please note that these are the fees that are being passed onto us from our CDN partner, so our ability to modify this pricing is limited. To get more information about SSL pricing, contact

Configure Your imgix Source

Once you have identified the custom domain you would like to use, please ensure that the custom domain is set up with your imgix Source that will serve this traffic.

  1. On the Source Details page, click Edit.

  2. Under “Domains”, click Custom Domain (on mobile devices, click Add Domain first). Screenshot-Custom domain source setup

  3. Enter the custom domain you’d like to use and click the Review & Deploy button to redeploy your Source with the new custom domain. Although the field will show http://, if the above steps are followed, the custom domain will support https://.

Contact imgix

After configuring your imgix source with the new custom domain, please contact our support team at to officially request an SSL certificate for the custom domain you have chosen. If you are already in contact with a representative from imgix, you can also contact them directly.

Verification via DNS

When imgix receives your request for an SSL certificate, we will begin the verification process with our vendor Certainly. There are currently three options for verification, if you do not specifically ask for one we will by default use the DNS verification process:

  • DNS: A random value will be provided that must be posted to the domain DNS record. Once detected, the domain verification will complete.

  • Email: Certainly will send a verification email to every email listed in the WHOIS of the domain. In addition, administrator@, admin@, postmaster@, hostmaster@, and webmaster@ email addresses will also be contacted. Acknowledging the email will complete the verification.

  • Web Server: A random value will be provided that must be posted on a server that hosts web content for the domain in question. Once detected, the domain verification will complete.

CAA record check

If your domain has any CAA record issued to either the root and/or the subdomains, you must add Certainly to your CAA record. To do this, add issue "" to wherever that CAA record is applied.

You can check and verify the existence of any CAA record using Entrust's CAA lookup tool (opens in a new tab).

To complete the setup, configure your DNS settings through your DNS registrar to ensure that the CNAME points to the new * hostname.

Once verification is completed, the domain will have HTTPS support immediately.
