TIFF Compression
tiff-compress
The tiff-compress parameter chooses how fm=tiff and fm=tiff8 output is compressed. Which scheme you want depends on who is consuming the file: print and archive workflows usually require a lossless one, while a scanned-document pipeline may expect group4.
| Value | Compression | Size | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
deflate | Lossless | ~145 KB | The default for fm=tiff |
lzw | Lossless | ~168 KB | The default for fm=tiff8. The most widely supported scheme in older tooling |
none | Uncompressed | ~183 KB | Largest files; use when a consumer cannot decompress |
jpeg | Lossy | ~21 KB | Honors q and flattens transparency onto white |
group4 | Lossless, 1-bit | ~3 KB | Black and white only, for fax and scanned documents |
Sizes are measured from the same 300 px wide photograph, so they are comparable to each other rather than absolute:

Values are lowercase only. LZW is not recognized and falls back to the default, as does any unknown value.
tiff-compress does not appear in the X-Imgix-Params response header.
