Drop Shadow Y Offset

drop-shadow-y

The drop-shadow-y parameter offsets the shadow along the y axis. It defaults to 0, and a positive value moves the shadow down.

A whole number is pixels, multiplied by dpr. A decimal between -1.0 and 1.0 is a fraction of the image’s height instead, so the offset holds its proportion at every output size.

Which shadow types read it depends on drop-shadow-type:

  • flat and inset read both drop-shadow-x and drop-shadow-y.
  • float reads only drop-shadow-y, as the size of the gap under the subject.
  • cast reads neither — its shadow is positioned by the light, through drop-shadow-azimuth and drop-shadow-elevation.

The offset also changes how far the canvas grows on each side.
