Audio Normalization
video-audio-norm
Applies EBU R128 loudness normalization to the audio track.
video-audio-norm accepts a boolean value. When set to true, Imgix analyzes the audio track and applies gain to bring the integrated loudness to the EBU R128 target of -23 LUFS. This ensures consistent perceived volume across different videos regardless of how they were originally recorded or mixed.
Loudness normalization is useful for:
- Maintaining consistent volume across a video library
- Meeting broadcast or streaming platform loudness standards
- Preventing jarring volume shifts when videos play back-to-back
Note that normalization adjusts the overall loudness level — it does not perform dynamic range compression. Loud peaks within the audio are preserved relative to the normalized level.
