Fade
fade
Fades the edges of the video linearly into bg over a set width. Use fade for every edge, or the side parameters to fade one edge at a time.
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
fade | Fades every edge over this width. |
fade-left | Fades the left edge. Overrides fade for that edge. |
fade-right | Fades the right edge. Overrides fade for that edge. |
fade-top | Fades the top edge. Overrides fade for that edge. |
fade-bottom | Fades the bottom edge. Overrides fade for that edge. |
Each accepts pixels, or a fraction from 0.0 to 1.0 of that axis: the left and right edges use the frame’s width, and the top and bottom use its height. Lengths follow the Imgix literal rule, so 0.3 is 30% and 1 is 1 pixel.
Where two edges meet, the fades multiply. If a pair of opposite sides is wider than the frame, both shrink to fit, so the middle is never faded.
The fade goes into bg, which defaults to black on video. Video has no alpha channel, so the edges never become transparent; a translucent bg lets the picture show through instead.
A fade can be combined with a gradient; the fade applies after the gradient. With mask=corners or mask=ellipse, a bare fade belongs to the mask and draws nothing on video, so use the side parameters instead.
On HLS and DASH, pixel widths are measured on the top rendition. Use fractions (such as fade-bottom=0.2) for fades that look the same in every format.
